There are many ways of getting to Jamaica. Cruises from the US is one - quite pricey - option. Going by flight is smoother. Air Jamaica has daily flights from Miami, Florida, and American Airlines also flies from several cities in the US. From london there are direct flights with British Airways. Check the web to find your best buy! No matter what the guidebooks say; US dollars are generally NOT accepted as payment in Jamaica. Even if US Dollars occasionally may be accepted, it´ll only make everything more expensive for you. It´s wise to change some money into Jamaican Dollars (J$65 is equal to 1 US Dollar 2006) before you leave, to cover for taxi from the airport, phonecards, cigarettes, etc. We´re dealing with a tropical climate here, making the tourist season - from around mid-December to April - the most well-tempered period. From April to October it gets a lot hotter and a lot more humid. The tourist season in Long Bay Beach, however, is far from the invasion-like tourist arrivals of Negril and Montego Bay. Also, if you´re interested in hurricanes, September is the month to go. |
